Attractions

The village of Tarporley itself with it's historic buildings, numerous antique and fashion shops as well as excellent eating places is itself the principle attraction but for the adventurous there are many places to visit nearby.

Blakemere Craft Centre  An extensive collection of craft shops and workshops housed in the restored stable buildings of Blakemere Hall. Good parking and the added attractions of a coffee shop, restaurant, aquatic and falconry centre and the PlayStacks children's playbarn. Located north of Tarporley off the A49 on the A556 Manchester road at Sandiway. Phone 01606 883261.

Beeston Castle With commanding views of the Cheshire countryside this ancient castle with it's exhibition is well worth a visit. Located just off the A49 south of Tarporley (look for the signs). Open most of the year, admission charge, phone 01829 260464

Ice Cream Farm The Cheshire Ice Cream Farm supplies many retailers, hotels and restaurants in the area. Visit the farm and see the animals, try the ice cream in the Country Kitchen  and buy some to take home for the freezer. Located East of Tarporley as shown on the map. Open all year.

Candle Factory If you visit the Ice Cream Farm then visit the nearby Cheshire Workshops famous for it's hand crafted candles. Visit the gift shop, food hall and restaurant. The location is shown on the above map. Phone 01829 770401.

Peckforton Castle A country house built by Lord Tollemache in 1850 but with all the character of a true medieval castle. South of Tarporley off the A49 within sight of Beeston castle. The castle is privately owned but is open to the public and can be hired for functions. You may recognise it as the setting for one of the "Robin Hood" movies. 

Bunbury Watermill a restored cornmill with stone ground flour for sale. Open 2~4:30pm Sundays, Wednesdays and Bank Holidays from Easter to September.  Located in Bunbury south of Tarporley of the A49 or A51. Admission Charge. Phone 01829 261422.

Cholmondeley Castle Gardens A Gothic Sandstone Castle is the backdrop to these extensive ornamental gardens. Lakeside picnic area, gift and plant shops and tea room. Open Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday and bank Holiday Mondays from April to September.  South of Tarporley on the A49. Admission charge. Phone 01829 720383.

Oaklands Golf & Country Club  Well established 18 hole 6508 yard Par71 Parkland Golf Course. Bistro, function facilities, visitors welcome. Located just outside the village, leave the High Street via Forest Rd, turn right just before the junction with the main A49. Phone 01829 733884.

Portal Golf Course & Country Club A jewel in the North West. Visitors and members welcome, handicap certificate preferred. Located just outside the village, leave the High Street via Forest Rd turn right at the sharp left hand bend at the "threepenny bit" sandstone lodge. Phone 01829 733644.

Oulton Park Race Track Famous local motor racing circuit, hosts rounds of the British Touring Car and British Superbike Championships. Interesting and not too hectic or expensive for a family day out on practice days. Located off the A49 North of Tarporley.
